TPB #35 – Flash Lag

Posted by:

This video is about measuring the lag between when a flash is triggered and when light is emitted from that flash. I show the setup I’m using to measure this and then I measure this flash lag for a Yongnuo YN460, Canon 580EX, and a Canon 580EXII. I found the flash lag to be around 50-60 microseconds which is 1000x faster than your typical shutter lag.

The goal of this weeks video was to modify a Yongnuo RF-603 wireless flash system to work with the Camera Axe. I describe the process I go through to hack the device. In the end I find it doesn’t work with the Camera Axe because it’s trigger voltage is too low. If anyone has ideas on how to improve it or a different wireless flash system to try let me know.
