TPB #35 – Flash Lag

Posted by:

This video is about measuring the lag between when a flash is triggered and when light is emitted from that flash. I show the setup I’m using to measure this and then I measure this flash lag for a Yongnuo YN460, Canon 580EX, and a Canon 580EXII. I found the flash lag to be around 50-60 microseconds which is 1000x faster than your typical shutter lag.

Hi Maurice, thank you for sharing so many nice testing videos with us.
I’m working with a Canon Speedlite Flash right now and I have a very practical question that needs your help.
What I need basically is to trigger the Flash with a TTL signal so that I can control it using a computer program and to synchronize it with another video camera. But the problem I have is that all the off-camera adapters for the flash I can find from web stores are wireless trigger, which does not fit my demand.
In this video I noticed that the cable you are using to trigger the flash is exactly what I need. So is that a commercial one or did you made it by your own? If it’s commercial could you send my a link to where I can buy it. or if it’s a homemade is there any tips for the crafting?
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Looking forward your kind reply :)
